Cross Country

 Cross Country

On the 22nd of March at Gilman Reserve, we had a cross Country Carnival. We were also luck enough to play some harmony games like soccer, obstacle course and much more games.

Kinder and Year 1 had only Harmony games. Year 2 ,Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 had both cross country and games. Year 2 up to some of Year 5 (ages 7-10) ran 5 laps and the rest of Year 5 and Year 6 ran 7 laps(11-12).

It was fun  and Good luck to everybody who made to the next level!

Starry Night

Year 5 have painted some great paintings inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Miss Lee showed Year 5 a video of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of the Starry Night and a video of the city skyline.

Bring Your Own Device

BYOD Rules

We have been lucky enough to trial bringing in our own device. These are the rules for the devices:

Your device is your responsibility.
Your device must be clearly labelled.
Bring it home each afternoon.
Bring it to school fully charged.
Download all apps software at home.
Keep away from liquids.
Do not use 3G/4G.
Only G rated apps and content.
Only use for educational purposes.

Do not use on the playground during recess, lunch, before or after school.
Taking photos or filming videos for any purpose other than as directed by the teacher is strictly forbidden.

Respect

Respect

Respect is when someone is a very nice person and is kind to others and helps them. Respect is one of the important values in life. In Year 5 we have one rule: RESPECT! We respect ourselves, each other and all property.  

We watched a fantastic youtube video made by a class in England about respect.

We have used the app comic touch to show the ways we can respect each other.        

As well as discussing what respect looks like, we have also been exploring what respect is not. Two of our classmates created a photo showing one example of what respect is NOT!

Boy Overboard

We have just started reading Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman.  We spent some time looking at the cover of the book and predicting what we thought the novel would be about.

Chapter 1

The next lesson we read Chapter 1.  Below are a couple of the summaries written by students in our class. 


In chapter one Jamal, Yusuf and their friends were playing soccer. Then Jamal's sister Bibi came and started to play with them. However it was illegal for girls to play soccer and they did not want her to play. They were scared because it was illegal and they might get caught.

In chapter 1  Jamal was playing soccer with his friends and his sister came along and wanted to play. He wouldn’t let her play but she still scored a try. There are three rules why he wouldn’t let his sister Bibi play.
1. Girls aren’t allowed to play soccer 
2. She’s not allowed out of the house without her parents 
3. Girls have to wear a headscarf to leave the house.

We think it is unfair that girls can’t play soccer and that they don’t have their own teams for Afghanistan.

In chapter 1, Jamal and his friends were playing soccer but he couldn’t score a goal. His sister  Bibi comes and made the kids so scared because it was against the law for girls to play soccer. They all tried to get her but they couldn’t and she scored a goal which made her brother happy. He was happy but then angry at her because she broke the rules. The others were scared so they ran home leaving them. They were scared they would be caught with the girl playing soccer. Bibi wanted to play again so she ran to the desert to get the ball and Jamal chased after her.
