Cooking Scones

On Thursday the 1st of August, Year 5 went to the hall to make Scones for text types. We went in our table groups  and we did 5 rotations ,there were  5 activities such as making scones, using the ipad app called pixntell to recount our procedure, copying the procedure, exploring food on the goldfield and making an advertisement for Scones. We all had a great time and the scones were fantastic . We  also had the scones with whipped cream and jam it was delicious, we gave some to the teachers and they loved them. In the end  we were called the chefs of the day!

Literacy and Numeracy Week

Literacy and Numeracy Week

On Tuesday the 30th June Year 5 celebrated literacy and numeracy week by participating in 6 different stations. Each station was a game which you would play with your table groups. Station 1 was called I See The Light, 2 players left the room and decided on a word, they then went back inside and had a conversation about the word and the players had to listen and when think they know the word they say I See The Light. Station two was telephone pictionary. Station three How, where, why and when. Station 4 was go fish with homophones, and station 5 was bingo. Station 6 was called 31, each player had to put down a counter on either number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 until you get to 31, the player who got to 31 is the winner.

What Some People In Year 5 Thought Of It

Jack: It was very very fun it was a great lesson.

Meg: I thought that it was very fun and was a cool way of learning.

Samuel: It was so fun and good for learning.

Mahrae: I had lots of fun and especially enjoyed the game ‘ I see the light’.

Overall, this was a really great maths lesson and was very fun.

Bankstown City Council Excursion

Bankstown City Council

On Wednesday 23rd July Years 5 and 6  were fortunate enough to go to the Bankstown city council chambers. We were taught about what councils do. We acted out as councillors and got to debate. The criminals were Jack M and Antoinette Y. After our council program we participated in a recycling program. During this program we learnt about recycling and which products go into which bins. The recycling was a great program and Years 5 and 6 really enjoyed it. After the recycling program we went into the Bankstown library to participate in a program, about the library and its uses. The program showed us about their websites, and the links that could help us in our school homework. Year 5 and 6 enjoyed this program.

Soccer Gala Day

The Soccer Gala Day

On the 23rd July 2013, Years 5 & 6 attended a soccer gala day and represented CTK. We played several games against different schools. There were 6 teams playing at the soccer gala day including 4 girls teams and 2 boys teams. We played at Marco and Kelso park at Panania. Both years 5 & 6 had fun and we would love to participate in another soccer gala day.

Gold Excursion

   The  Australian Gold Rush

Year 5 have been learning about the Australian gold rush, we also went to

Belgenny farm to find out more about the Gold Rush in Australia. We had a good experience and we had a chance to get to dig and pan for gold.

Firstly we all met the tour guide and went to the town hall, and he told us the generation of the gold rush. After that, we pretended  to be shepherds and rounded sheep. When we finished we checked their skin and sure they were healthy. We also had to check their teeth. We learnt that if they have four big teeth you half it and that is how old they are. Then we heard a bell ring, we ran to it finding a man saying that the Gold rush had just started and we went to the bank to get our fake money and licence to dig and pan for Gold. Next, we got ourselves into groups of 5 or 6 and put our money together, then we went to the shop to buy all the things that we needed (shelter, food, pans, buckets) and we bought our shelter first (tents) and built it up using pegs. After that we got to make some damper buying all the things we needed and while we waited for it to cook we went for a ride in a wagon, (but we had to pay) and we went to a river to pan for Gold. We found lots of Gold there and it was very fun too. We also went to a place where you could dig for gold. Then we ate our damper, weighed our gold and Ashleigh, Georgia, Mikayla and Clare won the gold weighing competition. So then we said our goodbyes to Belgenny Farm and also we got to keep the fake gold.

Language of Position

LANGUAGE OF POSITION WITH FREDDOS

On Monday the 22nd of July, year 5 did a task for Text Types. The task was to take a photo of the freddo and use Language of position to describe where the freddo is, some year 5’s did this with a partner but others were on their own.  

A lot of year 5 did heaps of photos but Mahrae & Lily got the most they did 24 photos!! But Ashleigh also did a great job because she had 23 photos!
