Year 5 have been learning about how to subtract big numbers with a strategy.           

First you  grab a deck of cards and put  them into rows. Then starting with the ones you minus them one by one, until you finally have your answer.

We learnt how to do Miss Lee’s Maths Magic Tricks.This an example.
10000-2345=

First you take 1 away from 10000.  This equals 9999.

Next you take 2345 away from 9999
9999
- 2345
=7654

Then you add one back on to the answer because we took 1 away before, this is the answer.
7654+1=7655  

This Magic Trick is easier to use because it takes less time and it is more easier.This trick works on different numbers here is another example.
1000000-5432=
1000000-1=999999

999999-5432
= 994567+1
=994568 this is the answer.
