Bushfire Paintings

Bushfire Paintings
By Jasmine and Meg

We have been thinking of those involved in the recent bushfires around NSW, particularly those in the Blue Mountains. On Wednesday 24th October Year 5 painted pictures of bushfires with burning trees. The background is made with red, orange, and yellow paint blended together. We used black oil pastels, white oil pastels and a lead or black pencil to make the trees. We used the white oil pastels to smudge the tree.

We also wrote prayers underneath about the fire brigade and those around them to keep  them safe. Here are some of the prayers:
Dear God,
Please help the people fighting the fire succeed. Please help the people who lost their homes, and protect the fire fighters and people who are near the fires.
Amen. By Tracey T

Dear God,
Without the Fire brigade there would probably probably already be hundreds dead, please help them to fight the fires and keep them and those around the fires safe.
Amen. By Meg B

Dear God,
Please help the fire brigade to stop the fires and keep all the people whose homes are threatened and gone to find a new home.
Amen. By Jasmine E

Dear God,
Thank you for the fire brigade please help them to stop the fires so that we can be safe and happy Amen.

Van Gogh's Sunflowers

Van Gogh's Sunflowers

By Michael V and Dylan

Painting by Van Gogh Image from: http://www.vggallery.com/painting/p_0455.htm

For art we have been  learning about Van Gogh. We have been painting sunflowers like ones Van Gogh painted. We made 2 artworks, one with just 2 pencils, 1 HB and the other 2B. The other we used a pencil, oil pastels and some paint.

We had to draw a vase, the flowers and the line of the table and on the other painting we had to draw the vase and the flowers again, paint the background and we had to smudge and colour the flowers in oil pastels.

Year 5 did great at it and the results were very good. We hope we can paint another of Van Gogh’s masterpieces, since it was fun.

Starry Night

Starry Night
By Christian B, Christopher and Samuel

Year 5 have painted some great paintings inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Miss Lee showed Year 5 a video of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of the Starry Night and a video of the city skyline.

Then Year 5 made their own Starry Night painting with the city skyline.

Monet's Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge

  Monet

By Angelica and Jasmine

Year 5 has painted a Monet painting. First we used a white oil pastel and drew a bridge. Next we used green and blue watercolours for the background. Then the next week we added water lilies.  We drew the water lilies with oil pastels.  We made the water lilies in the front big and the ones at the back smaller. Next we got white oil pastels and put a bit of white on the water lilies then we smudged it with our finger because Monet didn’t care if it wasn’t neat. Then we drew flowers on the water lilies. After that we coloured the water lilies with red and pink oil pastels then smudged the water lilies with our fingers. Finally we hung them up in the classroom.  They look so good- we have some great artist in this class!
