Mulga Bill's Bicycle

Mulga Bill’s Bicycle
By Lily

Year 5 have been reading the Mulga Bill Bicycle by Banjo A Patterson. This book is a poem about; a man who thinks he knows how to everything and anything, he tries to take on an beast with 2 wheels, but ends up in an terrible manner. Yr 5 have even created their own versions of Mulga Bill’s Bicycle.

Marley Will
By Clare
Was Marley Will, from Bass Hill, that caught the Tennis craze;
She turned away the rusty, old skateboard that served her many days;
She dressed herself in tennis clothes, so great to be seen; She ran off to the shops and bought a sparkling new racket
And as she swung it through the door, with air of great zing.
The smiling shop assistant said, “ Excuse can you swing?”
“Say what” said Marley Will, “From Ireland to the sea, from Sydney to Perth there’s none that can swing like me.”
I’m good at everything as everybody knows, although i’m not one to talk - I hate a girl who runs.
But swinging is my special gift, my life's delight; Just ask a wild bear can it climb, a blue fish can it swim.
There’s nothing clothed in fur or hide, or built of metal or flesh, there’s nothing hops or jumps, or climbs, on axle, hoof or wheel,
But what I’ll stand, while hold and grip and racket are tight:
I’ll swing this racket right straight at the ball, out of sight.

Tracey Kill’s skates
By Tracey
It was Tracey Kill, from Bass Hill, that caught the skating craze; she turned away the dusty, old ipad that served her many days; she dressed herself in skate clothes, so bright to be seen; she ran off to the shopping centre and bought a pair of new skates; and as she whoosh it through the door, with air of style and pride, the smiling shop assistant said “yo little girl, can you ride?” “ say something, yo foe” said Tracey Kill , “from Wakeley to the sea, from Junior Park to Allton, there’s none who can skate like me!”

Lil Drill
By Lilly
It was Lil Drill from Futureville, that caught the flying craze; She turned away the fantastic flying board that served her many days; she dressed herself in flying clothes, so magnificent to be seen; she raced off to the flying shop and bought an incredible new machine; And as she flew it through through the door, with air of future pride; The bored robot shop assistant said, “ Hey young human girl, can you drive?”. “Can’t you see dumb robot,” said Lil Drill, “From planet Earth to Mars, from Futureville to Roboton there's none that can fly like me”.

I’m the best at all time as everybody knows, Although I’m not the one to walk I hate a girl that runs, But flying is my special gift, my life’s sole delight; Just ask an wild  mutant fish can it swim, a wild robot cat can it fight. There’s nothing worn in metal or steel, or built of titanium or flesh There's nothing walks or jumps, or runs, on engine, hoof, or wheel, But what I'll sit, while hide will hold and  seat belt are tight: I'll ride this here 4-wheeled concern right straight away at sight."

It was Lil Drill from Futureville, that was at her own place, That sat above Steel’s Creek, beside the city road. She turned the car down the hill and mounted for the fight, But here she'd gone a dozen yards it bolted clean away. It left the track, and through the trees, just like a silver streak, It whistled down the awful slope towards the Steel's Creek.

It shaved an stump by half an inch, it dodged a big white-box. The very robot kangaroos in fright went jumping up the rocks, The bots hiding in their lairs dug deeper underground, As Lil drill, as white as a ghost, sat tight to every bound. It struck a boulder and gave a spring that cleared an fallen old tree, It raced beside a crevice as close as close could be; & then as Lil Drill let out one last despairing scream made a leap of 5 million feet into Steel’s Creek.

It was Lil Drill, from Futureville, that slowly swam ashore: She said, “I’ve had narrer shaves and lively drives before; I’ve rode a wild bull round a city to win a 50 cash bet, But this was the most awful drive that I’ve encountered yet. I’ll give that 4-wheeled outlaw best; it’s shaken all my nerve; to feel it zoom through the air & splash & plunge & swerve. It’s safe at rest in Steels Creek, we’ll leave it lying still; A flying board is good enough for me Lil Drill”.

The trial and crucifixion of Jesus.

Crucifixion of Jesus
By Angelica, Jasmine and Tracey

On Holy Thursday, Year 5 presented the crucifixion of Jesus as a  liturgy.  We had 4 scenes.  Every student was involved and did a wonderful job.

In scene 1 we showed how everyone wanted Jesus to be crucified on the cross.  The people in this scene were Mikayla, Jasmine, Luck, Jason, Gabby N, Clare and Jack.

In scene 2 we showed the soldiers putting clothes on Jesus and mocking him.  The people in this scene were Sarina, Christian E and Dylan.

In scene 3 we showed Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry the cross.  The people in this scene were Michael N, Gaby S and Emma.

In scene 4 we showed Jesus dieing on the cross.  The people in this group were Angelica, Ashleigh, Tracey, Samuel, Charbel, Kathleen and Michael V.

Christian B was responsible for beating the drum three times for every new scene.   Mahare and Lily made a lovely presentation of the songs.  Meg and Christopher were the narrators, and Georgia read the prayers.

Congratulations to everyone on a very reverent representation of the crucifixion of Jesus.

As we celebrate the Easter season we remember how Jesus was mocked by those around him- the crowd, soldiers and even another criminal.  May we remember that our actions may hurt other people.  Let us try to treat others with respect and kindness.

Boy Overboard Chapter 4

By Clare

Year 5 have continued reading Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman.  In chapter 4,Bibi stepped in a mine while going back home.  Jamal ran to Bibi once he heard the news from Yusaf.  Jamal said to Bibi to take her foot off slowly and he will put his foot on.  Jamal told Bibi to go back home with Yusaf.  A few minutes later after Bibi and Yusaf left, Bibi came back and gave Jamal a big  hug, Bibi pushed Jamal off the mine luckily the mine didn’t explode and they were safe and sound.  Year 5 have created some comics on what happened in chapter 4.

Here are some of the Comics that Year 5 have made:

Clean Up Australia Day

Gardening

By Dylan and Tracey
On Thursday 28th of February 2013 CTK gardened and picked up rubbish for Clean Up Australia Day. In the gardening we planted plants, took out weeds, we watered the plants.  We also found money nearly $11 and we placed it in project compassion.

We used garden tools and a watering can. We also cleaned up because it is nearly Clean Up Australia Day. We cleaned up on the grass area and we planted plants near the canteen. There were bugs in the garden and lots of dirt and branches.  All in all we had a lot of fun!

Boy Overboard Chapters 2 and 3

We have continued to read Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman.  To re-read our post on chapter 1 click here.  When we left last time Jamal and his friends were playing soccer.  Bibi joined them and kicked the ball out onto the desert.

Summary of Chapters 2 and 3

In chapters 2 and 3, Bibi went to get the soccer ball so Jamal followed her. They spotted a tank in the desert. To make matters worse, the soccer ball was stuck under the tank. Then Bibi started throwing rocks at the tank. Jamal told Bibi to go check on Yusuf and on the way there she stood on a mine. By Christian E & Mikayla

In chapters 2 and 3, Bibi kicked a ball into the desert and it went past a tank, so Bibi started throwing rocks at them. Jamal was really scared of dying because the tank aimed their guns at them both. Jamal told Bibi to go home, but Bibi said that she had already left a note saying that she has gone to play soccer with Jamal and his friends. By Luke and Ashleigh

In chapters 2 & 3 Jamal and Bibi went to get the soccer ball behind the crater but they realised it was stuck beneath the tank. Bibi wrote a note to her parents saying she was playing soccer. Jamal was scared they would get caught and their parents would panic. Then Jamal pulled the ball out from under the tank and heard Bibi screaming and the goalie told him “Bibi stepped on the mine”. By Sarina and Tracey

We found out about some of the rules that the children in Afghanistan in the novel must follow. These rules are called edicts. We then used google drawings to create posters of some of the edicts.

What do you think of the edicts?  Do you think they are fair?  Should Australia have similar edicts?

Our Cultural Heritage

Google Maps
By Sarina and Tracey

Year 5 have finding out about our cultural heritage.

Miss Lee created a google map where we placed a pin point of where our ancestors came from.  We realised some of our cultural backgrounds are the same and others are different.  Check out
our class map below.
